New CIQ applications for DAP/MAP exports from China were halted from 1 December 2024, with grey areas remaining over which pre-approved cargoes may still ship. The halt followed sharp domestic price gains in China, driven largely by higher sulphur costs, with domestic DAP reported at CNY3,750-3,800/t.
A Chinese export halt removes a major source of global DAP and MAP supply, which tends to firm phosphate prices for importers such as India and Brazil. Export prices sit well above domestic levels, so the halt is supportive for world phosphate values.
After 151 past bullish policy events, DAP moved a median +0.0% over 5 sessions (50% higher; middle half -0.6% to +0.9%), and +1.9% over 20.
