The USDA Agricultural Marketing Service Grain Transportation Report shows US grain exports for the 2024/25 marketing year through December 5 were up 26 percent year-to-date, led by corn and wheat. Barge movements through Mississippi River locks rose 13 percent for corn and soybeans and 11 percent for wheat, pushing barge rates higher.
Rail shipments of wheat to Mexico rose 22 percent, while corn rail shipments to Mexico fell 2 percent due to Ferromex service issues.
Tighter river and rail capacity raises freight costs for moving feed grains from origin to buyers, supporting higher delivered prices in the interior. Strong export pace also supports corn and wheat demand into the new year.
