The European Parliament gave final approval to the one-year delay of the EU deforestation law. The law requires companies placing soy, beef, coffee, palm oil and other products on the EU market to prove their supply chains do not contribute to deforestation.
The delay had been needed because the law was initially due to take effect on 30 December 2024.
Final approval locks in the timeline, so palm oil and soy exporters to the EU face no compliance change until late 2025. The effect on prices is limited for now.
After 513 past neutral policy events, Palm Oil moved a median 0.0% over 5 sessions (50% higher; middle half -1.6% to +1.4%), and -0.1% over 20.
After 554 past neutral policy events, Soybeans moved a median +0.0% over 5 sessions (51% higher; middle half -1.4% to +1.6%), and +0.6% over 20.
