TREAC, the Rice Exporters Association of Chhattisgarh, says India should lift its ban on 100% broken white rice exports, which was introduced in 2022 and kept in place for ethanol distilleries. The association argues that allowing these exports would revive closed mills and raise farmer earnings.
Chhattisgarh accounts for 15% of India's non-basmati rice exports.
Lifting the broken-rice ban would add exportable supply to a market that is already loosening, which is bearish for rice prices. The ethanol use of broken rice also links the decision to fuel demand.
After 100 past bearish policy events, Rough Rice moved a median -0.1% over 5 sessions (49% higher; middle half -1.7% to +1.6%), and +0.1% over 20.
