The EIA reported U.S. ethanol production averaged 1.081 million barrels per day in the week ended February 21, down 3,000 bpd week over week but 0.3% above a year earlier. Domestic ethanol inventories rose 1.353 million barrels to 27.571 million, the highest since April 2020.
Ethanol blending demand averaged 846,000 bpd, down 4,000 bpd week over week.
Stocks near a five-year high and softer blending demand suggest weaker ethanol margins and lower corn grind pressure, which is bearish for corn and DDGS. Heavier supply may keep feed-coproduct prices subdued.
After 1,102 past bearish report events, CORN moved a median -0.2% over 5 sessions (47% higher; middle half -1.8% to +1.3%), and +0.0% over 20.
