Reuters reports that a US paper industry group has asked the Trump administration to press the EU for lighter deforestation rules. The EU law requires proof that cattle, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, rubber, soy and wood products are deforestation-free, or they face fines or rejection.
Lobbying for weaker EU rules, if successful, would reduce compliance burdens on soy and palm oil trade. Any change would ease export frictions, but no decision has been made.
