Indonesia urged the EU to immediately remove countervailing duties of 8% to 18% on biodiesel imports after a WTO panel backed several of Indonesia's claims. The panel also held that Indonesia's export duty and levy on palm oil cannot be classed as subsidies.
The dispute comes as both sides move toward a free trade agreement.
A successful resolution could open the EU biodiesel market to Indonesian producers and ease trade friction over palm oil, with a limited near-term effect on prices.
