Nestle and other companies warned that delays to the EU deforestation law could postpone the ban on imports of palm oil and other commodities linked to forest destruction by another year. The regulation takes effect December 30 and requires operators selling soy, beef and palm oil into the EU to prove their products did not cause deforestation.
The companies argue that delays put forests at risk.
A longer delay would prolong uncertainty for EU palm oil and soy buyers and slow the shift toward traceable supply chains. Price impacts are likely limited to premiums on certified goods.
