The European Commission dropped its plan to delay the EU anti-deforestation law by another year, and proposed paperwork reductions instead. Under the proposal, the law takes effect December 30 with a six-month grace period for companies that cannot comply immediately, and micro and small businesses get an extra year.
The changes still require Parliament and Council approval.
The reversal keeps EU compliance deadlines in place, which affects how quickly soy and palm oil shipments to Europe must be certified. Buyers may pay more for compliant supply during the grace period.
