A DGFT notification dated October 3, 2025 changed the rice export policy under HSN 1006. Certificates of inspection remain mandatory for EU, UK and select European countries, but are waived for other European destinations until April 2, 2026.
Basmati and non-basmati rice are both covered.
The waiver lowers costs for exporters selling to non-EU European markets, supporting trade flows for Indian rice. The price effect on global rice is likely limited and temporary.
After 100 past neutral policy events, Rough Rice moved a median +0.0% over 5 sessions (51% higher; middle half -2.6% to +2.3%), and +0.7% over 20.
