The U.S. Coast Guard Lower Mississippi River office issued an update to its high-water safety advisory covering river miles 869 to 303. It sets reduced maximum tow sizes by towing horsepower, daylight-only transit for some southbound tows at Vicksburg, and speed requirements for upbound tows.
Smaller permitted tows mean fewer barges per trip, which reduces river grain capacity and raises freight costs for Gulf export shipments.
