HPAI outbreaks were confirmed on poultry farms in Niger and Nigeria in West Africa. In South Africa, an H5N1 outbreak killed all 1,226 birds on a Johannesburg-area farm, bringing the national total to 94 outbreaks since March 2021, and an H5N2 outbreak culled a flock of about 37,400 birds in KwaZulu-Natal.
These outbreaks are localized in small African poultry markets and have limited effect on global feed or poultry prices. They still add to the broader pattern of avian influenza losses.
