A Penn State study modeled 18 warming scenarios and found that U.S. Great Plains corn yields will decline under all of them from the 2020s through the 2090s. Irrigation partly offsets the losses.
The researchers say the results may have global implications.
Projected long-term yield declines reduce future corn supply and support higher feed prices over the long run. The findings are a long-range projection and do not directly move near-term prices.
After 1,465 past bullish weather events, Corn moved a median +0.2% over 5 sessions (54% higher; middle half -1.4% to +1.9%), and +0.9% over 20.
