US soybean futures rose to their highest level in seven years, with the CBOT May contract near $14.91 per bushel, up about 86% year on year. The rally followed forecasts of cold weather and snow across the Plains and Midwest that would delay US planting, and it was also supported by tight Brazilian supplies.
Delayed planting raises the risk of yield losses during the August maturation phase, which would tighten US soybean supplies and support feed-protein prices. Limited Brazilian availability adds further upward pressure on soybean prices.
After 1,079 past bullish weather events, Soybeans moved a median +0.3% over 5 sessions (54% higher; middle half -1.4% to +2.0%), and +0.9% over 20.
