The euro rose about 0.4% to $1.1043 after Putin said there had been progress in talks with Ukraine. It was heading for its first weekly gain in five weeks, after earlier falling to a near two-year low and then getting support from the ECB's plan to end stimulus.
Easing war risk reduces safe-haven demand for the dollar and supports the euro, which can soften dollar-priced commodity prices. Peace prospects would also ease supply fears for Black Sea grain and energy.
