Early November frosts in the Wimmera damaged crops, with high-value pulse losses estimated at $180 million. Rainfall of 20 to 150 mm in early December slowed harvest and raised the risk of sprouting and quality downgrades.
Quality losses are expected to shift more grain into feed grades.
Lower quality means fewer malting barley and higher-grade wheat deliveries and more feed-quality grain available, which can ease feed grain prices. Premium grades are expected to stay firm.
