NOAA's Climate Prediction Center outlined expected winter 2016-17 impacts of the current La Niña pattern on the central US. Northern Rockies, Dakotas and Great Lakes may see wetter, colder weather, while southern Plains may be warmer and drier, stressing already dry winter wheat in western Kansas.
Dry southern Plains conditions could cut hard red winter wheat yields and cold Great Lakes spells could raise livestock costs, supporting wheat and feed prices.
