The EIA's latest Short-Term Energy Outlook forecasts global liquid inventories will rise by only 50,000 barrels per day in 2018, down from 290,000 b/d in the November outlook. The change reflects upward revisions to Chinese consumption and lower OPEC output forecasts.
OPEC and non-OPEC producers agreed to extend output limits through the end of 2018.
A smaller inventory build supports crude and diesel prices, which raises fuel and freight costs for feed and livestock supply chains. Outlook uncertainty means prices could move either way in 2018.
