Palm oil output in Malaysia and Indonesia may fall because harvesting has been disrupted. Indonesia extended its Eid holiday to two weeks, which led to a fruit backlog at mills and a post-holiday labour shortage in Malaysia.
Planters expect a 5 to 8% drop in production from overripe fruit losses.
A possible 5 to 8% output decline would tighten palm supplies and support prices. Mill overcapacity and low fruit prices are a short-term offset.
