China's largest hog producers are building large modern farms in the northeast cornbelt, with plans for about 17 million pigs a year from listed companies. Some researchers expect output in the region to approach 120 million pigs annually.
Shifting hog production to the northeast raises regional feed demand and could increase grain and meal imports into China, supporting corn and soybean meal prices over the medium term.
