China's yuan has lost more than 6 percent against the dollar this year and nearly 10 percent since March, when the first tit-for-tat US and Chinese tariffs were announced. Attention has turned to whether the central bank will defend the psychologically critical 7 per dollar level.
A weaker yuan makes Chinese buyers' dollar-priced US grain and soymeal purchases more expensive, reinforcing demand pressure on US feed commodities. Authorities defending 7 would limit that pressure.
