Iowa State extension notes that a late, uneven season has produced a wide range of corn maturity, with test weights expected at 54-55 lb/bu against a long-term average of 56-58. Frost is expected in northern Iowa between October 11 and 13.
Lighter test weights raise handling, storage and drying costs and mean the lightest grain should be sold first, which adds quality-driven variability to corn supplies.
