USDA's weekly report showed total grain inspections for export of 2 million mt for the week ending January 23, down 10% week on week and 15% year on year. Corn inspections jumped 69% to their highest since mid-December, mainly on shipments to Latin America, while wheat inspections fell 57%.
Ocean freight rates to Japan continued to slide from last year's September peak.
Falling ocean freight and mixed export inspections point to softer export logistics costs for US grain, which can weigh on landed prices and basis; the corn rebound to Latin America is supportive for corn demand.
