US lean hog futures dropped by as much as their daily limit on May 28 as traders feared escalating US-China tensions could curb Chinese pork purchases. Coronavirus-related meatpacking plant closures also weighed on prices.
Fears of lost Chinese pork demand under the Phase 1 deal and continued packing disruptions push hog prices lower, reducing the value of hogs and pressuring feed demand.
