Indonesia's government says its mandatory biodiesel programme is intended to counter negative campaigns against palm oil in the EU and to stabilize crude palm oil prices. The BPDP-KS fund cited palm oil exports of $154.9 million in 2019 and about 22 million jobs in the industry.
The biodiesel mandate absorbs domestic palm oil supply, which the government argues will support CPO prices. The policy framing suggests continued support for domestic biodiesel demand.
