Large Mexican farmers warn that spending cuts could reduce domestic harvests. Agriculture ministry projections show yellow corn imports rising 5% to 16.2 million tonnes in 2019/20, with white corn imports up 20% on a smaller volume.
Expected growth in Mexican corn imports, mainly yellow corn from the U.S., supports U.S. corn export demand. Weaker domestic output would increase reliance on imports.
