India's government told fertiliser companies they cannot raise prices for now, after some firms reportedly lifted prices by more than a third following higher DAP and potash costs. Fertiliser company shares fell in response.
The price freeze blocks pass-through of rising global phosphate and potash costs, squeezing producer margins and possibly affecting supply. Farmers face less immediate price pressure, but the gap between domestic and import costs may raise the risk of shortages.
