The Biden administration is considering large cuts to US renewable fuel blending requirements, according to a document seen by Reuters. The EPA would lower mandates for 2020 and 2021 to about 17.1 and 18.6 billion gallons, below the 20.1 billion gallons previously finalized.
Lower ethanol blending mandates would reduce demand for corn used in ethanol and for soybean oil used in biofuels, which is bearish for corn and soybean oil prices.
