Soybean meal futures peaked in spring 2021 after USDA tightened supply estimates, then fell as ending stocks rose through summer reports. The October 12 USDA report cut 2021/22 ending stocks to 400 thousand short tons, and December futures rebounded from near $309 support.
Lower projected meal stocks after the October report support meal prices, and a rebound from support suggests the price floor may be forming for feed buyers. Meal is a key protein input, so tighter supply lifts feed costs.
