Most Latin American stocks and currencies fell on Wednesday after hawkish comments from Fed Chair Powell and other policymakers favoring big, fast rate hikes lifted the dollar. Brazil's real was an outlier, rising 1.2% as it recovered from four-month lows ahead of October elections, while Chile's peso hit a record low.
A stronger dollar and tighter US policy raise dollar-debt costs for emerging markets and pressure commodity-linked currencies, which can weaken South American export pricing and shift feed ingredient flows.
