Beef Magazine reports that the US closed its border to northbound live cattle after the NWS detection in Chiapas. NAISMA warned that the pest has spread through Central America and that infestations are hard to detect early.
The border closure removes a significant feeder supply source, and any spread into the US would widen the supply disruption and raise cattle prices further.
