USDA's Quarterly Hogs and Pigs report showed the total US hog inventory at 75.8 million, up 1% year over year, with pigs saved per litter at a record 11.92. Farrowing intentions for early 2025 were up about 1%, a combination that could raise inventories.
Larger hog supplies and record productivity point to heavier pork supply in early 2025, which would pressure hog prices and reduce near-term demand for feed grains from the hog sector.
