Hickman's Family Farms, one of the largest US egg producers, said bird flu has killed about 95% of its chickens in Arizona, roughly six million birds in about two weeks. The company cannot fill 100% of customer orders for the first time in 81 years and is cutting staff.
Losing about six million layers removes a large block of corn and soymeal demand from the Southwest feed market. Regional egg supply will be tight, which supports prices for eggs.
