USDA's August WASDE put the 2026 national corn yield at 180.7 bu/ac, down from 183 in July and about two bushels below pre-report expectations. Soybean yield fell to 52.7 bu/ac, and harvested area for both crops rose about one million acres above expectations.
New-crop corn stocks fell to 1.653 billion bushels, while soybean stocks rose to 320 million.
The lower corn yield and tighter stocks support corn prices. Higher soybean area and stocks weigh on soybean prices despite the lower yield.
