The St. Louis District Corps of Engineers finished an unprecedented 2022-23 dredging season on the Mississippi River on February 1, 2023. The dredges Potter and Kimmswick ran around the clock to maintain the 9-foot shipping channel.
Continuous dredging helped keep the river channel open during low water, supporting barge movement of grain and fertilizer. Reduced channel restrictions ease freight pressure on feed grain flows.
