Pakistan's Engro Fertilisers raised DAP prices by Rs400 per bag to Rs4,350, effective January 7, 2021. The increase followed a roughly $35 per ton rise in international DAP over two months, which analysts linked to Covid-19 disruptions and a shortage in the world market.
Analysts expect other local producers to follow and urea prices to rise as phosphoric acid costs increase.
Covid-related supply disruptions and higher phosphoric acid costs are tightening global DAP supply and lifting import parity prices. Higher phosphate and urea costs raise fertiliser expenses for Pakistani farmers and can squeeze crop margins.
