The rupiah fell three straight sessions against the dollar as the dollar index jumped nearly 1% to 91.395 after the Fed signaled rate hikes in 2023 and raised its inflation projection to 3.4%. Analysts flagged that faster rate hikes could bring earlier tapering, echoing the 2013 taper tantrum.
The rupiah was expected to weaken further.
Faster Fed tightening expectations lift the dollar and raise Indonesian import costs for feed, while signaling possible EM capital outflows.
