Bank Indonesia deputy governor Erwin Rijanto said the rupiah weakened to Rp 14,520 per dollar on July 20 mainly because of US policy signals. Trump criticized the Federal Reserve's planned rate increases, and the dollar strengthened across emerging-market currencies.
The central bank also pointed to yuan devaluation linked to the trade war.
Conflicting signals from the US administration and the Fed have lifted the dollar and raised the cost of dollar-priced feed imports for emerging-market buyers. Rupiah weakness raises landed costs for Indonesian feed importers.
