The Surface Transportation Board announced on May 6 that certain Class I railroads must submit service recovery plans, additional data and regular progress reports. The decision follows hearings where agricultural and energy shippers testified about severe service problems.
The board said the measures will inform whether further action is needed.
Stronger rail oversight could ease grain and fertilizer transport bottlenecks over time, but near-term delivery delays remain likely. Rail costs feed into delivered prices for feed grains.
