The Federal Reserve raised its policy rate to 1.50-1.75% at its March 21, 2018 meeting, the highest since 2008, and raised its 2018 US GDP growth forecast to 2.7%. It signaled two more hikes in 2018 and three in 2019, and Southeast Asian stock indexes rose the next day.
Higher US rates and stronger US growth support the dollar and draw capital from emerging markets, pressuring currencies such as the rupiah and raising import costs for feed ingredients. The rate path points to continued dollar strength.
