Thai rice export prices are expected to rise by US$20 a tonne over the next three months, according to experts, as global rice demand surges. Thailand's government plans to auction its remaining stocks, which are expected to ease pressure on prices.
Thailand holds about 23.4 million tonnes of rice stocks.
Stronger export demand combined with a managed release of Thai state stocks points to firmer Asian rice export prices in the near term. The auction schedule will determine how much of the price gain holds.
