Vietnamese rice exports reached 2.77 million tonnes in the first five months of 2022, up 6.6% in volume but down 4% in value year on year. Export prices average $489 per tonne, below 2021 levels but above India, Pakistan and Myanmar, with strong demand from the Philippines and Africa.
Strong import demand from the Philippines and Africa and expected wheat substitution support rice prices, though Vietnamese prices remain above rival origins.
