Corn futures hit new monthly lows at the end of July 2019 and were attempting to recover at the start of August. The selling was not tied to the stock sell-off that followed the Federal Reserve's quarter-point rate cut.
The Fed signaled the cut was not the start of the longer easing cycle that President Trump wants.
Grain prices are mostly driven by their own fundamentals here, so the rate decision has limited direct effect. Expectations of less monetary easing can support the dollar and weigh on commodities.
