The Brazilian central bank sold dollars on the spot market on Tuesday for the first time in 10 years without additional instruments, as the real slid to an 11-month low near its record. It announced plans to sell up to US$1.5 billion more on Wednesday, plus a US$550 million swap-linked sale.
The real rebounded to about 4.13 per dollar after the announcement.
A weaker real makes Brazilian soybeans, corn and meal cheaper for export buyers, which can pressure global feed prices. Central bank intervention may slow that currency-driven pressure on Brazilian export pricing.
