Oklahoma State economist Derrell Peel says beef supply pressures are building, with production up 3.6 percent so far this year on larger slaughter and heavier carcasses. He warns that a potential trade war could hurt beef exports and indirectly reduce pork exports and raise competing meat supplies.
Rising beef output combined with trade-war risk to export demand is bearish for cattle and beef prices in the second half of the year, and it can shift demand toward chicken and pork.
