DTN's Bryce Anderson notes that Pacific Southern Oscillation Index readings and sea surface temperatures now resemble a weak El Nino, with the 30-day SOI near -10 and the 90-day near -9. Equatorial Pacific pools are 1 to 2 degrees Celsius above normal.
The article suggests a 90-day SOI at -8 or lower could affect U.S. Midwest weather.
A developing weak El Nino raises the chance of altered Midwest and South American weather in the coming season, a modest bullish factor for corn and soy risk premium.
