USDA's Grain Transportation Report for May 19, 2022 reviews ongoing rail service problems affecting agricultural shippers. Grain carloads have declined and sit below the three-year average, and elevators report grain they cannot move because of weak outbound train service.
The report also says fertilizer shipments have fallen.
Rail constraints keep grain from reaching feed mills and export terminals, which affects local supply and basis. Lower fertilizer movement could also weigh on planting input availability.
