The Bangladesh government decided to procure an additional one lakh tonnes each of urea and DAP this fiscal year to support crop production and food security. Urea is to be bought by BCIC and DAP by the agriculture ministry through competitive emergency tenders.
Additional government tenders for urea and DAP add near-term import demand and support fertilizer prices in South Asia. The effect on feed-grain costs is indirect, through higher input costs for grain producers.
