Oat futures jumped more than 10 percent in three days after cold, wet weather in Saskatchewan halted Canada's harvest, with about a quarter of the crop still in the field and quality concerns raised. Oats reached a three-month high of $2.40 on Friday.
Traders are watching the old adage that corn follows oats, and oil prices fell as OPEC's production-cut deal showed signs of breaking down.
Canada is the world's largest oat exporter, so delayed harvest and quality problems tighten supply and support oat prices. Feed buyers may see some spillover into corn if the adage holds.
