Cheaper US beef heightens appetite for export access to Australia

Beef Central compared US live cattle and feeder futures with Australian forward cattle prices and found a wide gap heading into late 2017. Australia faces a slaughter cattle shortage after two years of drought, while US prices are pressured by herd rebuilding and cheap grain.

The gap is expected to push the US to seek restored access to the Australian beef market by August or September.
